DER Overview

Did you know that non-industrial buildings account for something like 48% of greenhouse gas emissions?

SOLUTION: DEEP ENERGY RETROFIT

What’s that? In the simplest terms, it’s a way to improve the efficiency of an existing house (or any building) by addressing the “thermal envelope.” That’s the part that protects the interior of the home from the outside elements/temperatures, cold, heat, wind and moisture. Most importantly, the top and bottom, roof and basement, need to be tightened up with proper insulation (dense pack cellulose and/or foam). Then the walls have to be insulated as well. The optimal way to do this is to basically build out, adding a thick layer of insulation outside the existing walls and then slapping on some new, preferably greener, siding. Then additional steps can be taken, like new windows, alternative heating and then even solar!
